Robert vanWaarden is currently based in the Netherlands
where he is continuing to turn his lens on the problem of climate
change.
With eight years of travel and professional experience
behind the lens
he
has produced some striking images. Robert’s portfolio shows a rich
variety of images selected from his
various travels. Portraits of Indonesia; 23 days of Tall Ships
racing across the Atlantic; travels on
the high Pamir
plateau of Central Asia; skiing and climbing adventures in the high
Rocky Mountains; the Australian outback; and the
urbanscapes of North American, European and Asian cities.
VanWaarden graduated from the Western Academy of Photography in 2004.
It was here that he was challenged to develop the keen eye and
appreciation for light which is so apparent in his photos. Since his
formal schooling Robert has never stopped shooting. His recent
travels of Tajikistan were displayed at
the Max Bell Auditorium at the Banff Centre. Sponsored by Mountain
Culture, Lowepro and Fuji, this solo show documented the life and land
of the Roof of the
World. At his latest public
appearance he adopted his surname of vanWaarden in honour of his
Dutch ancestry.
VanWaarden's images have appeared in publications by Canadian
Geographic, CNN, Canadian Broadcasting Channel, Radio Canada, British
Council of
Canada, Epoca Magazine, UP!
Magazine, COWI, UPEI, McGill Law Journal, and numerous international
non-profit organizations.
Most recently he documented the youth action at United Nations Climate
Change Conference in Bali. Robert believes in the power of photography
to tell a different story,
a more touching and true story which gives new meaning to the world.
