Robert van Waarden is a Dutch/Canadian photographer that
travels the world, camera in hand. With 8 years of travel and
professional experience behind the lens he has produced some striking
images.
Van Waarden's clean and traditional style has appeared in major
national and international magazines and he counts several
international corporations amongst his clients. His list of
publications include CNN, Canadian Geographic, the United Nations
Environment Program, the Quebec Government, the British Council,
Editora Globa, Casa Brutus, and numerous other magazines, NGO’s and
non-profit publications.
Van Waarden’s images have appeared in exhibits across the globe. Of
note are solo exhibitions in Trafalgar Square, London; Parliament Hill,
Ottawa; the Cinema Planeta Film Festival in Mexico; Cairo, Egypt;
Washington D.C; and the Banff Centre for Mountain Culture in Canada. He
was recently commissioned by the British Council to photograph the
Cape Farewell Youth Expedition. An international exhibit of these
images will now travel to over 100 countries.
The people and landscapes that he has encountered has inspired him to
dedicate his time to documenting the social movements,
particularly from the youth demographic, advocating change towards a
sustainable future and away from a warming planet.
This trail has led van Waarden across the planet. He has documented two
UN summits on Climate Change, coal plants in Tennessee, villages in the
Arctic, G-20 protests, climate summits in Washington, DC and protests
in South East Asia. Through out all of these projects, his thread of
connectivity has been the youth.
Van Waarden believes in the power of photography to make a difference.
He believes that by documenting the youth movements of the globe and
sharing through visual media he can help shift the world towards a more
sustainable future.
